40 Under 40 Celebrates Youthful Achievement
Publication: Denver Business Journal Date: 2002
Although Jennifer McCallum practices law and science from her home, her work has world-wide implications. With clients including biotechnology startups to large pharmaceutical companies and universities, McCallum has had a hand in such matters as sperm sorting in domestic livestock to the creation of cancer treatments.
With a doctorate in reproductive physiology and degrees in law and biological sciences, she focuses on agricultural biotechnology, pharmaceutical chemistry, genetic engineering, medical diagnostics, genomics and proteomics, helping her clients with domestic and foreign patent prosecution and searches, infringement analysis and transactional matters such as technology transfer and licensing agreements.
Her other side reveals a woman dedicated to balancing life by participating in the development of a regional park, organizing fundraising events, taking a leadership position on several municipal issues and candidate races, supporting economic development in the Town of Erie and working hard to open a children’s library.
“When a child comes in the library and takes a book off the shelf, that’s magic,” McCallum says. “With a library, you give [children] the tools they need to learn and to succeed.” Reading has a lot to do with her success, she says, as well as the example of her parents, who gave generously of their time both professionally and charitably. Then there’s her husband, Gregory, who is “wonderful and very, very supportive” of her many endeavors.
